Today NCSoft merged Aion's servers. Since there were possible name conflicts, all the characters were renamed like CharnamePR having some suffix at the end. Along with that all characters received a card that allows a free name change. It is possible to choose either your old name or even to select a brand new one. Since it is still possible to have conflicts in case there are active players with the same name on several servers, it is possible to send an appeal to NCSoft to resolve such a conflict. This is done by some unknown rules, but probably the most active player wins the desired name.
